DO-214AB (SMC)
SMDJ64CA-N
3000 W bi-directional foldback (snap-back) TVS in DO-214AB. Snap-back clamping pulls residual voltage far below a standard suppressor of the same standoff, so the downstream MOS rating can stay where it is.
Standoff VRWM
64V
Max continuous DC
Clamping VC

@ Ipp 29.1A
Peak power Ppp

10/1000 µs, non-repetitive
QCan SMDJ64CA-N replace SMDJ64CA without changing the PCB?
Yes. SMDJ64CA-N and SMDJ64CA are the same footprint — DO-214AB (SMC), same land pattern, same reel — so the swap is a BOM change only. Standoff voltage is identical at 64 V and the breakdown window is the same, but the clamping voltage drops from 103.0 V to 82.4 V (20.0% lower) at the same 29.1A pulse current, which is what lets the downstream MOS rating stay where it is. Both are supplied by Shenzhen Intek Technology from the AMSEMI line.

Read the Δ column carefully. The 20.0% is a clamping-voltage reduction, not a
power-rating upgrade. Both devices absorb the same 10/1000 µs pulse at the same current — what
changes is how much of that energy reaches the MOSFET behind them. If a design already passes with
SMDJ64CA, it passes with SMDJ64CA-N with more margin; if it fails on clamp,
SMDJ64CA-N is the drop-in fix — no layout change, no requalification of the land pattern.
When to use it and when not to
Good fit
- BMS protection boards where the residual clamp is what sets the MOSFET rating
- Existing SMDJ64CA designs that fail a surge test on clamp voltage — swap to SMDJ64CA-N with no layout change
- Retrofit work where the land pattern is fixed and requalification is expensive
- Bus voltages up to roughly 70 V with the 64 V standoff grade
Not the right part
- Where you need more surge current — go up a power grade (SMDJ → 5.0SMDJ → 8.0SMDJ), not across the -N line
- Footprints other than DO-214AB: a smaller package is a board redesign, not a substitution
- Signal-line ESD clamping — this is a 5 kW surge device, use an ESD array instead
Questions engineers actually ask
What does the “-N” suffix mean on SMDJ64CA-N?
It marks the foldback (snap-back) version of the same voltage grade. Electrically it is the same standoff and the same breakdown window, but the clamping characteristic bends back after breakdown, so the residual voltage seen by the protected circuit is lower.
Is SMDJ64CA-N a drop-in replacement for SMDJ64CA?
Yes — same DO-214AB footprint, same land pattern, same tape and reel. The only document that changes is the BOM. Ordering SMDJ64CA-N where you previously ordered SMDJ64CA does not require a board revision.
What is the clamping voltage of SMDJ64CA-N?
82.4 V at Ipp = 29.1A on a 10/1000 µs waveform. Standoff is 64 V and the breakdown window is 71.1–78.6V.
Is it automotive grade?
The AMSEMI factory holds AEC-Q101 qualification, and automotive versions are built to order with the suffix -H. Parts shipped from stock are industrial grade. Say which grade you need in the RFQ and both are quoted.
How much is in stock right now?
No shelf stock is listed for this voltage grade — it is built to order. Send the quantity you need and stock or lead time is confirmed within one business day.
Which documents come with it?
RoHS declaration, SGS test report and REACH statement are available on request for AMSEMI parts. The datasheet for this series is provided with the quotation.
